I wanted to give you guys a quick update on what has been happening with me the last couple weeks.
I had big plans for the last couple weeks while not creating anything for the blog.
It has been a roller coaster ride of nothingness.
Mostly I wanted to get out with my new camera lens and do some birding down by the river.
Well I got out once and then we were in a bloody deep freeze. The kind where only fools would go out, and I am no fool when it comes to the cold. I hate it! I did get a cute pic of a Downy Woodpecker to show you though.
That was it, I went to work and when I got home I hibernated.
I had a bit of a disappointment last week also. One of the reasons I started this blog, besides my love of making stuff, was to try and sell some of my wacky creations. I haven’t really accomplished that part of it. So I got to thinking maybe opening an Etsy Store would help.
Sure enough I received a message from a lady in France that was truly interested in The Monster Book of Monsters and wanted to know how much it would cost for shipping. Well I was so excited! I ran downstairs boxed it up proper, weighed it and took all the dimensions. Went online to the Canada Post site and typed in all the info. Sweet mother, I almost had a heart attack and I am sure that lady in France did also. They wanted $151.00 to ship and that was the cheap rate! The more expensive one was over $400.00! Of course she was unable to pay the ridiculous price. There I sat for a full day on the couch with a depression that was so deep it literally rocked my world. Everything I wanted to do came crashing down on my shoulders and I didn’t think I could move. By the end of the day, on the couch, I was a mess!
But the next day was a different story. I got to thinking, what can I make and sell that was small. It hit me like that light bulb moment people talk about. See the trouble about making creative things, is right now people do not want to spend money on things they want. It is more about spending money on things they need. I had thought of making some kind of jewelry pieces as this would be small and it would definitely ship for less. But there it is again the “want” versus “need” thing.
A few months ago I ordered a bracelet online. It was one of those magnetic bracelets for people with arthritis. I wanted to lessen the pain and take less in the medication department. I didn’t really think it would work, but hey, I will try anything. Well sure enough within a few days I seriously noticed much less pain. Each day was a noticeable improvement. I had been wearing it for a couple months when the clasp broke. I fixed it but knew it was still going to be a problem.
I did not want to order one of those ugly ones that people wear, as soon as you see it, you think “old person with arthritis”. So what was the alternative. Of course I made one.
I done some research on the type of magnets that would be needed. Ordered them and then went scavenging for belts and funky old jewelry I could rip apart.
Here is what I have come up with. I love them. They are fun and funky. Kind of a bohemian, hippie look which suits me perfectly. Plus on top of that I am still creating something from old recycled stuff.
I will spend the next couple weeks making some more and then putting them in my online shop here and at my online Etsy Store. I want to make them suited for both men and women and in all sizes.
Canada Post will not keep me down!!!
I hope other people like them as well as I do. If you have never tried a magnetic bracelet for pain or inflammation you should certainly try one. I took mine off last night to do dishes and forgot to put it back on when I went to bed. Well let me tell you I woke up feeling horrid. Besides the pain I even woke up with a nasty headache, I felt like I had a hangover without the fun drinking part! Within 20 minutes of putting my bracelet back on I was back to normal, no pain and no headache.
Even if you do not need one of these let me know what you think of the concept in the comments. I need feedback whether it be good or bad.
